Apple determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006.
As far as I remember, my iPod nano is a 1st gen. iPod nano 2GB, which I bought on the first day it was in stores. I haven’t been using this iPod for long, and a replacement didn’t make any sense, but I followed the replacement procedure anyways.
Shortly afterwards, I received a return label and an envelope, in which I returned my iPod. Approximately 1 month later, I got my replacement, but what I found inside was this:
It was a 6th gen. 8GB iPod nano Silver!!
Well, actually, I already knew about this from rumors that had already been spread by others who returned their old iPods…so it didn’t surprise me at all.
I think most people will be happy about this replacement, but I was confounded, because I have future ambitions of building a personal Apple museum. It would’ve been nice if Apple could’ve at least written about this exchange in their replacement program page.
I’ll use it not to listen to music, but this time as a watch and photoframe.

Deletei love my 1st gen nano, bought it sometime around the 1st quarter of 2006, i thought i lost it a year and a half ago, to my surprise that it was just at the inner-inner pocket of my big luggage bag, i never thought of buying a new one when i lost it, a self punishment perhaps, no more ipod for me! but now that i have it again...it's time to celebrate!
now, the thing is that the battery won't last an hour, i googled some nice battery on the net...but then i stumbled on these topics about the replacement program, and so i immediately logged-on to apple site and key in my serial number, yesterday may 29, 2012 4pm PST i received a reply from apple saying that they are going to send a package containing instructions...well, probably i'm heading the same path as yours...hope hope hope!! i will post the result once i get the replacement...8gb 8gb 8gb pls pls pls :))
well, whatever will be the replacement...it will always be fine as long as i have a longer listening time with my ipod.
